There are fourteen manvantaras in the current kalpa (day of Brahma). The Manus of each manvantara are as follows:
- Svayambhuva Manu
- Swarochisha Manu
- Uttama Manu
- Tapasa/Tamasa Manu
- Raivata Manu
- Chakshusha Manu
- Vaivasvata Manu (current)
- Savarni Manu
- Daksha Savarni Manu
- Brahma Savarni Manu
- Dharma Savarni Manu
- Rudra Savarni Manu
- Raucya or Deva Savarni Manu
- Indra Savarni Manu
Each manvantara is said to last for 306,720,000 divine years (308,622,400,000 human years). During this time, the world is created and destroyed four times. The Manus are responsible for guiding humanity during each manvantara. They are assisted by the Saptarishis, a group of seven sages.
The current manvantara is the Vaivasvata Manvantara. It is said to have begun 5,105,125,000 years ago. The Manu of this manvantara is Vaivasvata Manu, who is also known as the son of Vivasvan. The Saptarishis of this manvantara are Atri, Angirasa, Bhrigu, Gautama, Kashyapa, Marichi, and Vashishta.
The avatars of Vishnu are said to appear during each manvantara. In the Vaivasvata Manvantara, Vishnu has appeared as Rama, Krishna, and Buddha.
The manvantaras are a cyclical process that repeats itself over and over again. Each manvantara is a new beginning, a chance to learn from the mistakes of the past and create a better future.
