Daksha is a Prajapati, a divine creator in Hindu mythology. He is the son of Brahma, the creator god, and one of his foremost creations. Daksha is married to Prasuti, the daughter of Manu, the first man. They have many children, including Sati, the first wife of Shiva.

In one story, Daksha performs a yajna (fire sacrifice) and deliberately excludes Shiva and Sati. Sati is so humiliated that she immolates herself in the fire.

Shiva is furious at Daksha’s actions, and he sends his attendants to destroy the yajna. Daksha is beheaded, but he is later resurrected with the head of a goat.
